New Date: Oct 19, 2024!!!
Joanne Gaillus of Full Circle Physiotherapy and I are on a mission to help other women know what we wish we knew when we were in our late thirties, forties and early fifties. We chose this photo as an image for peri-menopause because the hippo is one of the most dangerous land mammals. It's a lot, and can be hard to handle with grace. She's unimpressed.
First some definitions:
Menopause- one day in our life that is one year from the day of our last period. Average age in Canada is 51 years.
Peri-menopause is the stage leading up to that one day of menopause. It can start anywhere from 10-15 years prior to that one day. So if we do the math that can be starting as early as 35. There's no one big sign that you're in peri-menopause. It's tricky because there are over 50 symptoms of peri-menopause and some of us have all of them and some very few. Some of us suffer greatly and some of us not at all or very little. Often we had things going on in the past that now we say ahhhhh that was peri-menopause.
Post-menopause - is the era after our periods have stopped for a year. It's a time when we tend to think more about what we can do to age well. Health and quality of life may become more front of mind and are often helped or made more challenging by our experience in peri-menopause.
Peri-menopause can be a really tricky time because of our fluctuating hormones. These hormones affect our whole bodies; brain, bones, heart, muscles, pelvis, mental health, energy, sleep....
So back to all the things we wish we knew... We'd love to help you understand what's going on, what some of the tools are and ways to feel like your full self. We'll share experiences, research, laugh and know we are all in this together. Handouts and snacks included. Please let us know if you have questions.
We'd love to see you at our one day workshop. Oct 19, 2024 Register here.
